It Can't Be Done One Student at a Time: Building Capacity Through Training and Web Site Development
Thursday, October 18, 2007 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
There are over 15,000 students with disabilities in our district and only a handful of AT staff. Most AT teams compromise by serving only the neediest students. How are we approaching the task of reaching the thousands of students with high-incidence disabilities? For the past four years, the principles of universal design for learning (UDL) have been our guide. So, how are we building the capacity of ALL staff to use technology to support ALL students? This presentation will focus on new initiatives. You will learn about E-TIPS (Educators using Technology to Improve the Performance of Students), which is an endeavor to build a community of tech-savvy educators and paraprofessionals. Find out how we crossed the great divide and collaborated with IT and AT staff to deliver training. Discover how we are using the Web as a platform to build AT capacity, and how one part-time person in two years harnessed the many resources in our district to build a Web site used by thousand each month. This workshop will be of interest to anyone who is trying to promote UDL, and deliver AT services with limited staff.
